And Elijah came unto all the people,
and said, How long halt ye between
two opinions? if the LORD be God,
follow him: but if Baal, then follow
him. And the people answered him
not a word.

That which is altogether just shalt
thou follow, that thou mayest live,

And if it seem evil unto you to serve
the LORD, choose you this day whom
ye will serve; whether the gods which
your fathers served that were on the
other side of the flood, or the gods of
the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell:
but as for me and my house, we will
serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:15

And as Jesus passed forth from
thence, he saw a man, named
Matthew, sitting at the receipt of
custom: and he saith unto him, Follow
me. And he arose, and followed
him.
Matthew 9:9
As we carefully examine ourselves and what we believe, we must also consider who or what
we follow.  Do we follow the Bible, or do we follow the Bible teacher?  These ten verses
serve to help us examine where our allegiance is.  The Bible is the Word of God and it is
completely true and trust worthy.  There is absolutely no error in it because God is perfect
and without error.  Can we ascribe the same qualities to a human Bible teacher?  Of course
not!  The Bible declares that all men are liars and have feet of clay.  No Bible teacher is
incapable of espousing false doctrine and leading his followers astray.  This is a sobering
thought.  Does this mean that we should not trust any Bible teacher?  Not entirely.
However, we do need to be extremely careful and ask ourselves:  is this man faithfully
following the Bible?  Is his teaching Biblical?  We should also ask ourselves why we need a
Bible teacher in the first place.  Perhaps we are impressed by his seeming wealth of Biblical
knowledge, and think he knows more than we could ever know.  Is this what matters most to
God?  No.  What God desires most is our complete dedication and obedience.  He wants us
to follow Him without question or reservation.  He tells us to delight in His word.  If we
wholeheartedly seek after God and follow the Bible, then we will never go astray.  May God
help us to put the inerrant Word of God above the errant word of men and rightly divide His
Word.
Then spake Jesus again unto
them, saying, I am the light of the
world: he that followeth me shall
not walk in darkness, but shall
have the light of life.
John 8:12

But thou, O man of God, flee these
things; and follow after
righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, patience, meekness.
1 Timothy 6:11

Thou shalt not follow a multitude
to do evil; neither shalt thou speak
in a cause to decline after many to
wrest judgment:
Exodus 23:2
And they forsook the LORD God of
their fathers, which brought them out
of the land of Egypt, and followed
other gods ...
Judges 2:12a

Who can tell if God will turn and
repent, and turn away from his fierce
anger, that we perish not?
Jonah 3:9
